How demanding is the construction work during operation?

This can be seen in the example of the extension of the magnetic resonance imaging of the Pelhřimov Hospital. It is an extension of the space for a modern diagnostic device, control room and technical facilities. The existing hospital building was structurally modified to accommodate a waiting room, preparation room and operational facilities.

Positives of the construction during operation:

- continuity of care; the extension during hospital operation will allow for the continuous operation of medical services and the maintenance of patient care
- minimal disruption to operations

- cost control

Disadvantages of the building in operation:

- Increase in noise in the vicinity of the building and the associated risk of reduced patient comfort
- risk of construction complications due to the adjustment of the works to the current hospital operation
- possible construction delays

- need for flexible logistics

The challenge was:

- to set up a complex logistics planning and coordination so that the construction work does not interfere too much with the hospital’s operations
- maintain close cooperation with the contractor and the hospital. Even the short power outages required to make new connections and relocate power sources had to be coordinated with the hospital operator

- optimise the workspace for hospital staff and ensure the safety and comfort of patients and staff.

The project included replacement of HVAC systems and cooling technology for the adjacent CT scan room. Despite minimizing the cooling downtime, the CT shutdown at Pelhřimov Hospital had to be determined and scheduled with neighbouring hospitals and the health and emergency services system for predefined days.
